Before you take your bike from the station, you should do a quick 7-point check:

Saddle

Saddle

Ensure the saddle is at the correct height. A properly adjusted saddle will make sure you are safe, comfortable and using energy efficiently. Adjust the saddle by releasing and tightening the black lever.

Brakes

Brakes

Always check your brakes are working. Use the left hand brake lever to check the rear brakes and the right hand brake lever to check the front.

Bell

Bell

A bell helps to improve your safety on the road. Make sure you can be heard by rotating the bell in a clockwise direction.

Lighting

Lighting

Make sure the switch behind the front light is set to ‘ON’. Then spin the front wheel to check that both the front and back lights are illuminated when the wheel is in motion.

Handlebars and pedals

Handlebars and pedals

The handlebars and pedals should be firmly attached. Handlebars are pre-set to the optimum height, so please don’t try to adjust them.

Gears

Gears

Always ensure you are in the correct gear for the type of terrain you are riding on. 1 is the lowest gear, suitable for hills. 7 is the highest gear, for use on flat roads.

Tyres / wheels

Tyres / wheels

Make sure front and back tyres are properly inflated and firmly attached to the frame. Check by rocking the frame from side to side.
